‘Star Wars’ themed land at planned at Disney parks

The big, 14-acre facilities will be built at Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World in Florida and Disneyland in Anaheim, California (steps from where D23 was happening in the Anaheim Convention Centre). While fans will no doubt be looking off into the distance towards the fully-realized Star Wars lands, these 2015 options should keep them happy in the meantime.

Walt Disney Studios chairman Alan Horn broke the news Saturday during Disney’s D23 Expo, saying of the blockbuster dinosaur sequel, “It knocked our Avengers from No. 3”, on the all-time box-office chart, “but we hired him anyway”. Needless to say, we are anxious for new glimpses of the film.

At Epcot, the California-themed Soarin’ ride will get a new theme and name, “Soarin’ Around the World“, next year.

The new lands will burnish the legacy of Iger, who has audaciously expanded the company during his decade at the helm. Business has been booming with the company’s acquisitions of Marvel Entertainment and Lucasfilm.

The Star Wars sci-fi franchise has had a presence within Disney’s parks in the form of the motion-picture simulation ride Star Tours.

“It goes into new territory, exploring the galactic struggle from a ground-war perspective while maintaining that essential Star Wars feel that fans have come to know” Lucasfilm’s Kathleen Kennedy explained. There will also be a version of the franchise’s famed Mos Eisley Cantina in each location.

“We’re now casting for roles”, Iger said. “Through each new attraction and new land we create, we push the boundaries of what is possible”. “When you’re dealing with the mythology of ‘Star Wars, ‘ you better have those skills, and he certainly does”. The land will include two attractions – a Slinky Dog family coaster and a ride on which green aliens will pull visitors around for a spin, the Sentinel reported. Below are details about Shanghai Disneyland, Toy Story Land (!!), and more. Star Wars Launch Bay will be located in the Animation Courtyard at Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World, and in Tomorrowland’s former Innoventions space at Disneyland, which will also house the newly named “Super Hero headquarters”, which will include Thor and Captain America photo-ops plus the return of “Iron Man Tech Presented by Stark Industries”.

One simply said: “Star Wars is gonna be ruined”. The expansions to the original parks will be 14-acres each. It’s all part of the promise to bring Star Wars to just about every park in the Disney collection. “That’s was where my childhood was most spent when my parents took me to Disneyland”.

Although date of production has yet to be announced, Colin will start working with artists and Star Wars directors sometime this year.
