‘Star Wars’ Themed Land Planned at Disney Parks

Disney announced at its annual D23 Expo in Anaheim that it will be opening Star Wars Lands in both of its American theme parks in the coming years.

The project will feature two new rides, including one where participants take control of the Millennium Falcon spaceship, as well as the Cantina, the infamous hub of rogue smugglers and traders in the films.

As HollywoodLife.com previously reported, the D23 Expo perhaps should have been renamed the Star Wars convention, judging by the two big stories to come out of Disney’s entertainment extravaganza over the weekend.

Iger didn’t lay out an exact timetable for the parks, but separate Star Wars attractions will begin appearing in Disney’s existing parks later this year, around the time of the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Colin Trevorrow will direct “Star Wars: Episode IX”, it was announced today at D23. The movie is due out in 2019.

While some of comments defend the selection of Trevorrow, majority accuse the 38-year-old of creating one of the worst films of 2015 in Jurassic World and fear him doing the same to the final Star Wars film.

Trevorrow, whose “Jurassic World” broke box office records this summer with over $1.6 billion in global earnings had been rumored to be joining the “Star Wars” fold before Saturday’s announcement. It stars Felicity Jones, Jiang Wen, Diego Luna, Riz Ahmed and Donnie Yen, and you can see the first photo from it in the gallery below. Its next instalment comes out in 2017 starring Orlando Bloom and Javier Bardem. During the panel at which the expansions were announced, it was hinted that the attractions will be filled with creatures going about their own business, wandering around for guests to encounter.

“I’m very happy, yesterday following in the footsteps of George Lucas, the author of the early chapters of my story”, said Ford. You can check out the announcement video below. The film follows the adventures of Jack and Inma, an 18m-tall 11-year-old girl. Much like every other character in Disney Infinity, the action figures have a heavy cartoon-style look to them.

Receiving a raucous reception was Jungle Book, based on the Rudyard Kipling book, which features realistic-looking talking animals.
