“We’re bringing Star Wars to life in a big way, and I mean really big”, Disney CEO and chairman Bob Iger told the crowd at Disney’s D23 expo [via EW].

R2-D2 will be rolling into Mickey Mouse’s neighborhood, Disney announced Saturday, unveiling plans for two huge “Star Wars” attractions at existing theme park venues in Florida and California. “With these new announcements, we continue our legacy in creating innovative attractions, worldwide entertainment and magical lands that take our guests into the worlds of stories they love”. The sites will be the original Disneyland Park in Anaheim, California, and the Disney World in Orlando, Florida. Disney bought the rights to Star Wars from LuscasFilm in 2012, and while many people figured the company would introduce the film series to its parks, Disney had remained silent on the matter until now.
“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” is expected to release on December 18th of this year.
Three photos showing concept art for the new Star Wars lands were also unveiled during Iger’s presentation.
Talking further about the new addition to the theme parks, he said: “The 14-acre land will be occupied by many inhabitants, aliens and droids”.
The “jaw-dropping new world” will transport guests to a never-before-seen planet, a remote trading port and one of the last stops before wild space.
When Disney originally acquired Star Wars many fans believed that their beloved franchise was going to be driven into the ground.
The next Star Wars trilogy is complete as far as naming directors goes. “Nothing will be out of character or stray from the mythology”. Visitors will get to fly Han Solo’s rough-and-ready ship, the Millennium Falcon, on what Iger called a “customized secret mission”, or join “a climactic battle between the First Order and the Resistance“.
“Star Wars” fans and Disney kids have so much to look forward to.
