Star Wars trailed watched (and watched) in record numbers

Maybe you’d like to rewatch the trailer, which, according to The Guardian (and ultimately Lucasfilm)has been viewed more than 112m times online during its first 24 hours online.

Bookings opened on Monday and a record number of 2 299 tickets were snapped up. In the United Kingdom, more than 200,000 tickets were sold in the first day.

What we can gather through this trailer though seems to be something we could have guessed prior – the empire is back with a new leader vowing to finish what Darth Vader started and seemingly back in a new space station.

In three hundred ninety screens in United States, the film also broke IMAX’s records garnering $6.5 million the day after the pre sale began; ESPN also had an overwhelming boost when they put the trailer on screen during Monday night football.

With a quota of just 34 non-Chinese films allowed to be shown in China a year, the seventh in the Star Wars series hasn’t been given a release date for China yet.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be followed on December 16, 2016 by Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Star Wars: Episode VIII on May 26, 2017, and the Han Solo anthology movie on May 25, 2018. “But more than numbers, there was discussion, there were reaction videos, there were fun memes”, said a statement. The film, part of which was shot on Skellig Michael off the Kerry coast, stars members of the original cast, including Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, and Carrie Fisher, as well as a string of new stars, including Irish actor Domhnall Gleeson. Kathleen Kennedy, J.J. Abrams, and Bryan Burk are producing, and John Williams returns as the composer.
