Starbound leaves Early Access, full release coming this month

After spending around two and a half years in Early Access, Starbound will be seeing a full, version 1.0 release on 22 July.

“After (nearly five) years, the game we set out to make finally exists, and to say that it all feels a bit surreal would be a massive understatement!” Today came the next big step: The announcement of an official launch date of July 22.

Starbound is something of a spiritual successor to indie hit Terraria, with Chucklefish CEO Finn “Tiyuri” Brice having worked on both games. It’s only gotten better with time as new features have been added, and more are coming with the 1.0 release like an expanded questing system and the ability to recruit NPCs as crew members for your ship.

Having been in development for over 5 years, version 1.0 is set to release in just a couple of weeks.

It’s been a long, winding road to get here, but it looks like Starbound will at last be leaving Steam Early Access and getting a full release later this month. Although the game has been stuck in Early Access, it has already earned several awards and achievements. “While Starbound will be finished in two weeks, this isn’t the end”, a message from the developer reads.

Those who wish to play with friends may also opt to buy four copies of the game on Steam for only $45, saving you $15 on that one extra copy.
