Starbreeze to develop new Crossfire game in deal worth $40 million
For a while, very little information was coming out about Overkill’s upcoming video game based in the world of The Walking Dead. A shooter in the Walking Dead universe could be pretty good- one only need look at just how great The Last of Us was for proof. The delay has been stated to allow the team more time to add in lots of additional content. This was revealed in a press release over on the official Starbreeze website where they revealed why the delay was taking place…

A release date for the game has yet to be announced, but Starbreeze highlights the fact that a CrossFire movie is set to release in 3-5 years’ time, providing a “valuable marketing opportunity” for the new game. The partners are convinced this will pave the way to success and cement it as a tent pole product for the next decade to come.
Starbreeze has entered into a new partnership with Korean publisher Smilegate. The game made about $10 million in the fourth quarter of the previous year and Starbreeze had a net profit gain of $4 million, even before they implemented microtransactions, as reported by GamesIndustry.biz. As part of the deal Starbreeze has gained the rights to publish Smilegate’s Crossfire online shooter in western markets.

We don’t know much about Overkill’s The Walking Dead, though Starbreeze’s Almir Listo did say, “It’s going to be a co-op experience, it’s going to be a survival-horror action-RPG…” The aim for both of us is to bring the best from our home markets to new audiences.
