In July, Starbucks chief executive Howard Schultz said Mobile Order & Pay was bolstering sales and profit at the roughly 4,000 USA cafes where it was available.

Over the past several months, the company has tested the concept around the US and says it’s been successful.

The coffee chain announced today its app would begin supporting mobile ordering at 7,400 of its stores in the United States, giving users the opportunity to order and pay for their drinks before they even arrive at their local Starbucks.

So whether you’re in love with the caramel macchiato or whether you’re thrilled that it’s Pumpkin Spice Latte season, you can order and pay directly through the app, so that it will be ready for you when you walk in the door. Customers in Seattle can place orders through Starbucks’ mobile app while those in New York can order online.

Brotman is also pleased with how well the app option has been received by customers, and what this means for the next phase of first world retailing.

Now you don’t have to courageous the epic line at Starbucks in order to get your morning coffee.

In many ways, Starbucks behaves like a technology company.

In December, Starbucks introduced Mobile Order & Pay to 150 stores in Portland, OR.

Starbucks chief digital officer Adam Brotman, said they refined a lot of different features before pushing through with the expansion. It’s a new feature of the popular Starbucks mobile app that allows customers to place and pay for their orders in advance of their visits and pick it up at a participating Starbucks location.

These digital initiatives are expected to quicken service, increase convenience and enhance customer loyalty thereby driving mobile payment transactions and spurring traffic. Now, coffee aficionados can have their quick caffeine fix by simply using the Starbucks mobile order app on their smartphones, without having to step out of their homes or offices. But after seeing early success and growing customer demand, Starbucks accelerated the national release of the app.
