Stars back bid to remove Jeremy Corbyn as Labour registration deadline looms
Labour confirmed that Mr Corbyn and Mr Smith will be the only two candidates on the ballot paper for the postal vote, which ends on 24 September.

Last year, 113,000 people paid £3 to register as Labour supporters, about eight out of 10 of whom backed Mr Corbyn.
Unlike Corbyn, who enjoys huge support among Labour members, Smith has the backing of the party’s MPs.
Voting in the ballot for the election of the party leader is restricted to Labour Party members and affiliated supporters who joined through their trade union.
The Labour leader has lost the support of 80 per cent of Labour MPs and Ms Eagle said a change of leadership was essential for the party to function effectively.
YouGov carried out the poll of 1,019 Labour members eligible to vote before Ms Eagle withdrew from the race last night.
A source close to him said of this week’s surge: “It will be reasonable to assume the majority of them are supporters of Jeremy”. We have got to get back to being not just an effective opposition but also offering an effective alternative government.
In this leadership election Corbyn is very likely to win comfortably.
“I am just as radical as Jeremy Corbyn”, he said.
“We need to have a strong and united Labour party so that we can be a good opposition, take the fight to the Conservative government and heal our country”.
Mr Corbyn’s office has reportedly responded to Ms Chakrabarti’s comments by saying: “We don’t comment on Labour nominations to public bodies or political appointments”.
Mr Corbyn’s lawyers argued that his personal interest in the litigation was “pressing and obvious” and distinguished him from the general body of members represented by Mr McNicol.
But on the big issue of the day, had he ever taken Viagra, Smith was initially coy – “that’s for me and Mrs Smith to know about” – before, doubtless recognising the importance of strong leadership in the Labour party, shutting down the question. We’ve got a democratic election and then whoever wins, we should get behind whoever is supported and move forward as a party.
The Labour angrily hit back, saying: “I know this is very amusing for Conservative members but I do not suppose (there are) too many Conservative MPs who have to go to a food bank in order to supplement their family table”.

Smith said he was embarrassed by his clanger but blamed the incident on a “bullying” culture at the state broadcaster.
