State Attorney General Kane resigns after conviction

Those embarrassing emails led to the resignation of two state Supreme Court justices, and other top government employees.

Before being released the judge also warned Kane that there would be additional consequences if there were any signs that she was retaliating against witnesses.

Kathleen Kane need not look at any old boys’ network for her downfall.

Actually, let’s back up even further.

Kane’s resignation isn’t a surprise at all – in fact, she’s required under state law to resign by the day of her sentencing, which is set for October. Voters will select a new attorney general in the November election.

This was all playing out behind the scenes until news leaked that Kane wasn’t going to pursue corruption charges against some in her own party.

The leak grew out of Kane’s feud with former office prosecutor Frank Fina, he said.

Kane was born and raised in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and was publicly endorsed by Bill Clinton, according to the Times-Tribune.

“I implore Attorney General Kane to do what is right: Put the commonwealth’s residents first and step down”, Wolf said.

Kane’s honeymoon as attorney general ended in March 2014 when The Philadelphia Inquirer reported she had shut down an undercover sting that had caught a Philadelphia judge and five state lawmakers taking cash payments or gifts. “I believed this when she was charged, and today, after conviction, there should be no question that she should resign immediately”, Wolf said.

“I don’t think she had the opportunity or the chance to do (the job)”, Mahoney said. They accurately portrayed Kane as a woman scorned, furious over an unflattering newspaper article she believed had been leaked by a former prosecutor to make her look bad. In turn, Ferman pressed charges against Kane last summer.

Prosecutors alleged Kane leaked information about a grand jury probe in an attempt to embarrass a rival. Morrow, who was granted immunity, said he and Kane lied to a grand jury about the matter.

And she certainly didn’t exude sympathy for Kane Monday night, in threatening her with an immediate revocation of bail in the event of any direct or indirect reports of retaliation by witnesses in the trial. She did not testify in her own defense, and she left the courthouse without commenting.

“Those are two witnesses who will say whatever they need to in order to protect themselves”, defense attorney Seth Farber said, according to the New York Times.”You would not even buy a used vehicle from one of them”.

State sentencing guidelines for perjury – the highest-graded offense of the various charges Kane faced – call for a minimum term ranging from probation, to nine months in prison for a first-time offender like Kane. The defense said Kane wouldappeal.
