According to the school’s communications director, 47-year-old Bradley Bartelt drove his truck onto campus and crashed into a barrier.
A former student at ASU’s Newport campus, Bartelt was taken into custody about an hour after he caused a lockdown.
Holmes said a negotiator was sent to the scene to speak with the man. It wasn’t clear what, if any, discussions took place. A later tweet said there were no shots fired or any reports of injuries.
Jason Penry/AP Bartelt drove his truck onto the Arkansas State University campus Thursday and called 911.
Jonesboro Police said they had received a call Wednesday about a Facebook post Bartlet wrote in which he stated he was homicidal and suicidal and referred to an incident with the Social Security Administration. The school says the suspect is in police custody.
Holmes said bomb squad technicians were going to examine the truck the suspect had driven into the middle of campus.
He told the emergency operator that his shotgun had only one shell.
Bartelt was injured when his driving partner ran him over when he was recovering a 50-pound barrel, based on a filing with all the state worker’s compensation commission.
While going through Bartelt’s home, his girlfriend was arrested.
Bartelt was enrolled in a four-week training course for commercial truckers at the time of the accident.
Authorities went to Brad Bartelt’s home on Wednesday after being alerted regarding a post on the suspect’s Facebook page complaining about John Goree, a judge for the Office of Disability Adjudication and Review in Little Rock.
The leader said that, when he arrived, Bartelt the shotgun visible as well as was sitting in the truck with his foot out the window, crying something inaudible.
Bartelt would at times get out of his truck and wave a 12-gauge shotgun around in “various directions” on campus, according to the report.
A SWAT team from the Jonesboro Police Department negotiated with Bartelt and persuaded him to throw down the shotgun, ending the incident peacefully, Elliott said.

Officials are still investigating and Bartelt could have his first court appearance as early as next week.
