For the information to be removed forever, a server must be “wiped”, a process in which everything is overwritten over the underlying data with nonsense, possibly several times. That could mean more than 30,000 emails Clinton says she deleted from the device could be recovered.

Deleting emails is not the same at wiping a server. “The probability of recovering material is very, very much higher if you haven’t wiped it”. “Nothing I ever sent or received was marked classified at the time“, she explained.
The first server and Kendall’s thumb drives have been handed over to the FBI, which is investigating whether classified information was mishandled on the devices.
