The State Department has no authority to discipline former employees, but it could add information about any security violations to the person’s file, State Department spokesman John Kirby told the Wall Street Journal earlier this week.

That announcement came in a testy hearing with FBI Director James Comey, who defended the government’s decision not to prosecute Clinton over her private email setup.

“I can not provide specific information about the Department’s review, including what information we are evaluating”, Kirby said.

“I received and accepted their unanimous recommendation that the thorough, yearlong investigation be closed and that no charges be brought against any individuals within the scope of the investigation”, she said.

Though the Justice Department announced just days ago that they would not be pursuing formal charges against Hillary Clinton, the State Department is reopening the case against Hillary Clinton, they announced on Thursday, July 7.

Additionally, the TRUST Act expresses the sense of Congress that Secretary Clinton should not have access to classified information unless she earns the legal right to such access. Also, there’s the Clinton Foundation is still under FBI investigation. Comey on Tuesday gave a scathing assessment of Clinton’s email practices, followed by his conclusion that “no reasonable prosecutor” would charge her with a crime.

But the State Department paused its review in April, as the FBI conducted its own investigation.

Beyond the Democratic front-runner, the revisited probe is most likely targeting Cheryl Mills, Jake Sullivan and Huma Abedin, who wrote numerous emails to their boss that are now once again under investigation. Comey stated that, while the former First Lady was “extremely careles” with sensitive materials, the evidence did not prove intent.

The letter goes on to ask whether Clinton and her aides have active security clearance at the State Department, whether steps are being taken to impose sanctions on them and whether other agency employees had security or administrative sanctions imposed on them.

“The American people are exasperated when there are no consequences for the mishandling of state secrets”.

“I write this as a political centrist who tends to like Clinton as a candidate – but who is also frustrated by a lack of consistency in the security clearance process and a bias in favor of the well-connected”.
