State Department to Reopen Internal Review of Clinton Emails

“Late this afternoon, I met with FBI Director James Comey and career prosecutors and agents who conducted the investigation of Secretary Hillary Clinton’s use of a personal email system during her time as Secretary of State”, Ms Lynch said in a statement.
The State Department is restarting its investigation into whether Hillary Clinton did not properly handle classified information as secretary of state. No end date has been set for the review, which Kirby explained could result in “administrative sanctions” against State Department officials involved in any wrongdoing.
Clinton left her role as Secretary of State in 2013, as did many of her aides. The BBC also said that the loss of Clinton’s security clearance seems impossible, and “bordering on absurd” to enforce if she were elected president.
According PBS, the State Department also said that that the probe will possibly look into confidants Cheryl Mills, Jake Sullivan and Huma Abedin. According to recent reports, the executive department she once led apparently has some questions of its own in the wake of the FBI’s investigation.
The department could issue a security violation or infraction that would affect Clinton’s security clearance in the future. If they receive security clearance-the harshest punishment-they may not be able to be promoted in a Clinton administration.
Clinton, the presumptive Democratic nominee, had been dogged for the past year by a Justice Department inquiry, which was settled this week without charges against Clinton or her aides.
State Department spokeswoman Elizabeth Trudeau said in April it was “standard practice” for the department to pause on its review during the law enforcement investigation.
Comey stated that, while the former First Lady was “extremely careles” with sensitive materials, the evidence did not prove intent.
Republican critics of the Federal Bureau of Investigation decision not to recommend Mrs Clinton be prosecuted said this showed that she was above the law.

House Speaker Paul Ryan, for instance, asked the Office of the Director of National Intelligence to block access to classified briefings for Clinton for the rest of the campaign.
