There will be no shortage of presidential hopefuls in the state this week, particularly those who will be making appearances at the Iowa State Fair.

Charlie Puth with special guest Life of Dillon will perform the night of August 22 instead of Trainor, who announced one day earlier that she couldn’t complete her tour due to a vocal cord problem that requires surgery. Former Governor of Florida, Jeb Bush, will be on hand for the annual Republican Party of Polk County Summer Sizzle fundraiser beginning at 6:30 p.m. Thursday then he will get his chance at the Iowa State Fair Soap Box at 9:30 a.m. Friday morning. Trainor had sold 8,500 tickets.

Rockers Def Leppard and country artist Carrie Underwood have sold-out shows.

Northey says many commodity organizations distribute information to fair attendees, and the state ag department will feature two exhibit booths, one in the Agriculture Building and the other at the Varied Industries building.

The fair starts Thursday and runs through August 23 in Des Moines. “We are looking at alternatives and we don’t know what those are going to be yet”, said Williamson.

Country music performers are often the biggest money generators among the musical acts. The Def Leppard and Carrie Underwood shows have done so, while almost 9,800 tickets are sold for Reba McEntire.
