State jobless rate hits 5.6 percent in October
Paul Mason, economist with University of North Florida said the jobless figure fell to 4.9 percent in October, down from 5.1 percent in September after seasonal adjustments.

Unemployment in the Orlando metro area hit a new seven-year low of 4.6 percent in October, according to unadjusted data the state released on Friday. The unemployment rate is 4.4 percent in OH, down from 5.2 percent a year ago; 4.4 percent in IN, down from 5.8 percent 12 months earlier; and 3.8 percent in Colorado, down from 4.4 percent a year ago.
“October marks the fifth consecutive month that Arkansas’ unemployment rate has declined and the twenty-third straight month that employment increased”, said Susan Price, programs operations manager for the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The state gained 13,600 total nonfarm jobs over the month, or 1.0 percent.
“You hear very little of anything from any level of state government about taking advantage of unique gifts of both location and education that CT has compared to a lot of places”, said Savage.
Construction up by 8,200 jobs, with most of the gains, 7,200, in specialty trade contractors.
State Democrats said Hoosiers deserve higher wages in the new jobs being created. Minnesota has added 23,929 jobs in the past year, a growth rate of 0.8 percent.
The manufacturing sector added 5,400 jobs and the private educational and health industry added 2,900 workers last month. That was a tenth of a point under the October 2014 figure.
The latest report from Washington estimates the state gained 85,800 jobs in the past year on a not seasonally adjusted basis. For the week ending November 14, seasonally adjusted initial claims fell by 5,000 from the prior week, while the 4-week moving average rose 3,000 from the previous week’s average. They haven’t responded by cutting more jobs.
The New Haven labor market was hit hard in October, losing 1,400 jobs last month.

In October of 2014, Nacogdoches had an unemployment rate of 4.7 percent.
