One of the protesters was also in critical condition on life support after being shot by another civilian.

His family has pleaded for protesters to remain peaceful.
Within hours of his killing, protesters had taken to the streets, clashing with police in riot gear.
Law enforcement officials attempted to disperse the crowd, but many of them splintered off and attempted to block roadways.
But not all the marchers left.
The officer has been placed on paid administrative leave, Mayor Jennifer Roberts said.

The shooting led to protests in the city Tuesday night that blocked I-85, and resulted in damaged police cars and 16 injured officers.
The man was shot as police in riot gear protected an upscale hotel in uptown Charlotte. Two others also suffered minor injuries. One person was arrested.
“My daddy’s dead! My daddy’s dead!” she screams.
They spotted a man with a handgun – later identified as Scott – exit and then reenter a vehicle, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police chief Kerr Putney told journalists.
A fellow civilian, not police, shot him, authorities said. At that point, officers deemed the man a threat and at least one fired a weapon, he said. “I can tell you we did not find a book”, the chief said. But neighbors told a dramatically different story, saying Scott was reading a book, not holding a firearm, and that the officer who shot him was white. Three uniformed officers were wearing cameras and investigators are reviewing the footage.
But Putney said he can not release the video because the investigation is still under way. No mobile-phone video has emerged on social media, as happened in other cases around the country. Vinson has been with the department for two years.

The person is believed to have been shot be another protester, according to reports from police. The jury deadlocked and the charge was dropped last summer. The city saw a few protests but no violence.
Moments after her father was shot, Lyric Scott had started recording on Facebook Live, screaming at officers on the scene. The officer said suddenly a brick shattered the windshield of his patrol auto and glass got into his eye.

On Tuesday, she said, Scott had only a book in his hands and was following orders. He got out the vehicle and then he walked around his auto to the back of his auto. The city originally said the victim died, but now says he is on life support.
