State Police warn about unusually deadly brand of heroin

The heroin, labeled “Hollywood”, is the same type responsible for multiple overdose deaths in the area in the last few days, according to police.

“Just like in all of New England, Springfield does have a heroin problem”, said Springfield police Sgt. John Delaney, according to CNN.

This strain of heroin is blamed for eight overdose deaths in MA.

Vermont State Police are not aware of any other cases involving this strain of heroin.

In a brief summary of the investigation, the prosecutor said Perez was arrested late Saturday after city police received a tip that a gold minivan carrying a large amount of heroin would be pulling into the parking lot of a CVS store on Belmont Avenue.

The drug led to eight overdose deaths, all which happened in Hampden County. Local police also seized 9,000 bags of the drug over the weekend and arrested four people in connection to the bust.
