Meanwhile, the Chief Minister said a task force has been formed to monitor the situation and district authorities and other state departments have been directed to be on the alert and stay prepared. The principal objective of Ms Banerjee’s sojourn in London is to showcase Bengal as an attractive investment destination.

She should rather concentrate on creating favourable conditions for the Indian industries than wasting the tax payers money on such foreign trips, Sinha said.

Banerjee said “We are hopeful about attracting investment to make West Bengal an ideal destination”.

Banerjee is accompanied by a 62-member delegation, including business chiefs from the Federation Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) as well as state cabinet ministers and MPs.

The industrials accompanying Banerjee embrace ITC chairman Y.M. Deveshwar, RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group chairman Sanjiv Goenka, Ambuja Neotia Group chairman Harsh Neotia and Patton Group managing director Sanjay Budhia. Among other engagements, Banerjee will also be meeting Duke of York, Prince Andrew at Buckingham Palace. She will not be able to meet the British Prime Minister because he will not be in the UK during her visit.

On July 28, she is scheduled to meet several business delegates, secretaries and partners who are likely to sign some MoUs.
