State workers in Flint got water coolers before water crisis was acknowledged

They show water coolers were placed next to each water fountain in Flint’s state office building so employees wouldn’t have to drink the city water. Residents were told that the water was safe and could still be consumed, even as MI began offering fresh bottled water to Flint state employees.

“Sadly, the only response was to protect the Snyder administration from future liability and not to protect the children of Flint”, Lonnie Scott, the executive director of Progress Michigan, said.

There are more than 8,000 children in that city of roughly 99,000 people whose brains, impulse control and learning ability may have been permanently damaged by lead in Flint’s drinking water.

State lawmakers have unanimously approved $28 million to help aid the drinking water contamination crisis in Flint.

“We have a crisis in Flint. we have a situation where people can not drink the water coming out of the tap”.

The hearing is expected to focus on the inaction by MI and federal officials, who for months didn’t alert Flint residents to the health risks caused by lead leaching into the water supply.

In a related story, just a day after a coalition of environmental and civil rights group filed a federal lawsuit against the state demanding it replace all of the lead pipes in Flint’s water system, Michigan Senate Democrats are seeking to do the same.

“It’s about 100 and some if you go back over the last couple of years”, Michigan Governor Rick Snyder said.

The new steps were announced Thursday at a fire station that’s doubling as a water distribution site.

The Governor has extended his emergency declaration in Flint till April 14th. Improperly treated water leached lead from pipes into Flint’s drinking water.

Just as we thought things couldn’t get any worse in the Flint water crisis, new revelations prove there is always room for more outrage.

He again took responsibility for the crisis, saying there were failures at all levels of government.

The governor’s spokesman Dave Murray said the water was for both employees and residents visiting the building, which includes the Department of Health and Human Services, starting in January 2015. Rick Snyder was wrong to thwart democracy and install emergency managers in cities like Flint, and it’s time for him to be held responsible.

The allocation of the money – but not the amount – changed a bit from the House-passed version of the bill because of the huge amount of bottled water donated to the city from all over the country.
