Statement from the San Diego Chargers on Defensive End Joey Bosa
In response to a report that contract talks are going nowhere between the Chargers and rookie defensive end Joey Bosa, the team released this statement.

Well, the Joey Bosa saga is not any closer to a happy ending today as the San Diego Union-Tribune’s Chargers beat reporter Michael Gehlken has reported via Twitter some truly unsettling news this morning.
First off, the Chargers made sure to get into specifics regarding their latest offer to Bosa. “They characterized their previous offers to the OH state defensive end as fair and structurally consistent with the contracts of every other Chargers player”.
Bosa has not reported to training camp due to disputes over when his signing bonus will be distributed. Meanwhile, he’d earn more money this calendar year than any player from the 2016 NFL Draft class outside of Carson Wentz. This would give them financial relief in the event Bosa was released during the contract and ended up playing somewhere else.

“The offer that we extended was for Joey to contribute during all 16 games and beyond”, the team said. San Diego reportedly wants to push about half of the payment of Bosa’s $17 million signing bonus out until March, and they want offset language to be included in his deal. “Joey’s ability to contribute for an entire rookie season has now been jeopardized by the valuable time he has missed with his coaches and his teammates”, the team said in the statement.
