Statewide domestic violence hotline gives victims options

Almost one in four women, one in seven men, and approximately three million children across the United States are affected by domestic violence.

Given these serious statistics, Weinberger Law Group will honor Octobers Domestic Violence Awareness Month with new projects aimed at educating victims and supporting DV prevention efforts by local community groups. It is imperative that we raise awareness of domestic violence, protect and inform victims that help is available and stress the negative impact it has on Family and unit readiness.

They hope to encourage people to speak up when they see others in violent and abusive situations with their new “Upstander Campaign”.

Safe Passage served 427 adults and 169 children locally during its 2015 fiscal year, Mary Ellen Schaid, Safe Passage’s executive director, said this week.

If you know a victim of domestic violence, please find a safe way to convey that the abuse is not their fault and help is available, for example at Willow’s 24/7 anonymous Crisis and Support Hotline 585- 222-SAFE (7233). Services include emergency shelter, counseling, legal advocacy, accompaniment, youth services, safety planning, and a pet partnership program with Loudoun County Animal Services.
