Status orange and yellow snow-ice warnings issued for tonight
“This will result in snow across southern Scotland, with the Met Office issuing an amber warning for heavy snow for parts of Midlothian, East Lothian, Scottish Borders”.

The Met Office has also issued yellow ice warnings for the whole of mainland Scotland.
About three to six centimetres of snow was expected quite widely, with the possibility of more than 10cm on higher ground.
The snow-ice Warning for Longford, Cavan, Monaghan, Galway and Roscommon says to expect possible snow accumulations of between two to four centimetres from midnight tonight until midnight on Thursday.
“While inquiries into the circumstances are ongoing I would like to urge motorists to be aware of road conditions in cold weather”.
Drivers should take extra care during this weather, and there may be some disruption to transport and power supplies.
“The trend to wintry weather then extends into parts of northern England during the rest of Wednesday night, clearing from Yorkshire during the morning”.
Tonight will be very cold with a widespread sharp frost and icy patches on roads, and lowest temperatures are expected to be between -2 and +2 degrees.

Public Health England’s Dr Angie Bone said: “It’s so important to remember that cold does kill, even in places where the temperatures aren’t at their lowest”.
