A trial run of around 750 private buses was conducted in Delhi on Sunday, as the odd-even traffic formula is being implemented from January 1.
The directorate of education has issued two circulars directing private schools to provide their school buses along with drivers and helpers for running it as public transport from January 1 to 15 when private vehicles with odd and even registration numbers will ply on odd and even dates. Twitter’s India’s Head for News, Politics and Government, Raheel Khurshid, explained the workings of the service.
Apart from that, users, who do not wish to make their location public, can send a message to @transportdelhi and thereafter, they will get destination details, he said.
The Delhi High Court is likely to hear on December 30 the petition filed by Public School Association against an order by the AAP Government to provide school buses for public transport during the implementation of the Odd-Even formula.
The Metro will run on peak frequency on the day.
“At present, there are over 2,000 trips of Metro throughout the day”.
A fleet of 3,000 buses has been registered to absorb the new flow of commuters.
“A total of 3,000 buses will be added on Delhi roads from January 1”, Delhi Transport Minister Gopal Rai told media persons.

Minhas said the Delhi government would pay the private buses joining the campaign at the rate of Rs 41 per kilometre for normal buses.
