Steelers DE Heyward fined for eye-black tribute to late father

I would say that this latest lack of empathy and human emotion from the NFL surprises me, but honestly at this point, nothing about this league surprises me anymore.

“Ironhead” was the nickname of his father, the late Craig “Ironhead” Heyward, a former National Football League running back.

Pittsburgh Steelers defensive finish Cameron Heyward was fined $5,787 by the league for violating the uniform code.

You’ve still got a ways to go, NFL.

Players are allowed to use eye-black to reduce glare from the sun or bright stadium lights, but the NFL’s uniform policy is against “personal messages”. Williams’ mother, Sandra Hill, died of breast cancer in May 2014.

That’s the same policy that will prevent Steelers running back DeAngelo Williams from wearing pink on his uniform after October. “Guys want to do right by the league”.

This is not the first time Heyward has worn the “Ironhead” eye black, he said, but it is the first time he received a fine for doing so.

Final season, a quantity of National Basketball Association players honored the memory of Eric Garner by wearing “I Can’t Breathe” T-shirts in pre-game warmups, which includes LeBron James, Kyrie Irving and Nets stars Kevin Garnett and Deron Williams. But Cameron Heyward is dealing with a few questionable repercussions for showing his support.
