Steelers’ injuries mount as Roethlisberger confirms torn shoulder ligaments
Brown was injured following a controversial hit by Cincinnati Bengals’ Vontaze Burfict.

The Pittsburgh Steelers only just squeezed past the Cincinnati Bengals on Saturday night, and now they’ll face the Denver Broncos this weekend with a compromised quarterback – if he plays at all. Brown remains in the NFL’s concussion protocol, Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said Tuesday. Porter was involved with the Bengals multiple times during the ugly regular season game between the two teams December 13 that resulted in more than $130,000 in fines from the league.
The Pittsburgh Steelers are playing the Denver Broncos in the divisional round of the playoffs on Sunday.
“I definitely felt like I was shortening up my motion up a little bit, which is why we threw some screens, and couldn’t really get the ball down the field”, Roethlisberger said.
Burfict’s most recent violation came with 22 seconds remaining in last Saturday’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, when he was penalized for unnecessary roughness for using his shoulder to make forcible contact to the head and neck area of a defenseless receiver.
But you know and I know, that when [Sunday] gets here, all that is going out the window, man….
Landry Jones will get the majority of snaps in practice early in the week as Pittsburgh prepares for a rematch with the Broncos, whom the Steelers beat 34-27 on December 20 behind the spectacular play of Brown.
“Coach (Todd Haley) called one deep one in there and, obviously, he had to because time was running out”, Roethlisberger said after the game. “I promise you: 24 hours before the game”. It’s not known if Brown will be ready to play Sunday.
“Coaches are supposed to be held to a higher standard when it comes to stuff like that”, Jones said.

Citing a source close to the Bengals linebacker, ESPN is reporting that Burfict hopes Goodell will reduce his three-game suspension and wants to meet with the National Football League commissioner at his soonest convenience. Martavis Bryant, who made a ridiculous TD catch at Cincinnati, would be the de facto No. 1 option in the case that Brown can’t go.
