Steelers place TE Green on regular season PUP

The Pittsburgh Steelers have placed tight end Ladarius Green on the physically unable to perform list, keeping him from practicing or playing until after the sixth week of the regular season – at the earliest.

To comply with National Football League regulations, the Steelers made four moves today to trim their roster down to the required 75 players. Those three would have been longshots to make the roster, but the loss of Green for a significant portion of the season puts added pressure on inexperienced tight ends Jesse James and Xavier Grimble. There have been multiple reports that more recently, he has been suffering from headaches related to two concussions suffered last season with the San Diego Chargers.

Green has continued to rehab from offseason ankle surgery.

In the past week he has begun jumping, squatting with weights and doing resistance training.

The Steelers signed Green to a four-year, $20 million deal in March in the hopes of replacing longtime Steelers tight end Heath Miller, who retired this offseason. The team’s Week 7 game is against the New England Patriots at Heinz Field.
