Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger to Miss 4-6 Weeks

The Steelers are well-versed in playing without Roethlisberger, who has missed at least one game in nine of his 12 seasons as a full-time starter.

While tight ends Jesse James, Xavier Grimble and David Johnson have been a pleasant surprise, Green’s ability to make plays downfield would bring another dimension and take some of the pressure off All-Pro wide receiver Antonio Brown.

And while Roethlisberger has 13 years of National Football League experience and is a two-time Super Bowl victor, Belichick doesn’t see the Steelers offense changing in a huge way under fourth-year quarterback Jones.

Landry Jones is a realist. And when he has some pep in his step, he can strike.

Bill Belichick downplayed the absence of Ben Roethlisberger during a press conference on Wednesday. “Just like anybody else in this building, we have confidence in anybody that’s here”. “It’s a team sport, so I don’t want to put it all on me”. That was a big pickup for him.

“He’s a professional athlete”, Tomlin said. “He has knowledge of the offense”. Brady beat Bettis in the 2004 AFC Championship game at Heinz Field. That hardly means he expects offensive coordinator Todd Haley to delete half the playbook or the Steelers (4-2) to cower at the sight of Tom Brady.

“His pinpoint accuracy, his field vision, his ability to extend”, Tomlin said. “You know me. I love to battle the best”. The team has 21 days once Green begins practicing to determine whether to put him on the 53-man roster. He continued to play through the meniscus tear, but he won’t be able to do so in the coming weeks.

“We’ll see”, he said. “It was a significant possession”. “We didn’t change much as all of what we were doing”. The opportunities are there.

– All signs are pointing to the Steelers committing to the running game against the Patriots. It pained the third-year linebacker to sit back and watch as the Steelers gave up a season-worst 222 yards on the ground to the Dolphins. They may be built to win with an explosive passing game that relies on passing the ball to set up the run, but that is not the way to win on Sunday. One thing they reminded me is just how great his defensive game plan was for the Giants in Super Bowl XXV. Any position as you’ve seen this year, we’ve had those guys have success. That style of play can lead to more hits.

Mettenberger threw eight passes for the Steelers in preseason.
