Steelers second-round pick Senquez Golson had shoulder surgery

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin told PennLive’s Jacob Klinger that the move was made because “it’s a natural way for [Wild] to continue to get reps and show some versatility and help us in an area where the lines are short”.

The Steelers will break camp on Saturday after their final practice at Saint Vincent College on Friday afternoon.

“Obviously we’ve known that surgery was something that was probably necessary from the time that we got here”, Tomlin said.

“We’ve been on the road for two games so it’s good to be in our own stadium you know, and having our own fans cheer”, Beachum said.

When it became apparent the rookie would not be ready to return to the field anytime soon, the Steelers made a trade with Philadelphia on August 1, sending the Eagles a conditional fifth-round draft pick for veteran cornerback Brandon Boykin.

“Hopefully, this couple of weeks has been beneficial for him”.

Golson was in team meetings though, Tomlin said. Hindsight is always 20-20.

Boykin, who tied for second in interceptions in 2013 with six, has fit in nicely in the Steelers’ secondary despite being acquired a week into training camp. Tomlin said. “But I would imagine not many share my perspective”. “I’m being (used) at both now, so we’ll see what happens”. Inside linebackers Lawrence Timmons (turf toe) and Vince Williams (hamstring), running back Josh Harris (foot) and wide receivers David Nelson (shoulder) and C.J. Goodwin (undisclosed) are all out for the Steelers. It’s not an unexpected development as the rookie cornerback was on the PUP list and reports early this month had surgery as a possibility.
