Steelers sign linebacker Steven Johnson to 1-year deal

The Pittsburgh Steelers agreed to terms with linebacker and special teamer Steven Johnson on a one-year contract Friday.

Johnson joins one of the deeper position groups on the Steelers roster. He made the Denver Broncos as an undrafted rookie free agent in 2012 and played with the Broncos through 2014 before spending last season with the Tennessee Titans. Michael Griffin had spent nine seasons as the Titans’ free safety, but he was released by the team and has signed with the Minnesota Vikings.

Johnson played in 57 games with seven starts and five playoff games with one start.

There’s been no developments about cornerback Cortez Allen’s contract situation since he was asked to reduce his contract amount earlier this month.

Former Sulligent High School and Alabama Crimson Tide standout Rashad Johnson will play for the Tennessee Titans during the 2016 season.

The Steelers are still thin on the defensive line and will most likely have a defense-heavy draft.
