Steelers stunned by Ravens in 20-17 loss
It took the Pittsburgh Steelers blowing what seemed to be an easy win in Baltimore, but the Bengals will take whatever they can get. With the New York Jets’ overtime victory over the New England Patriots on Sunday, the Steelers need help to make the playoffs.

“We’re capable of beating anyone, ‘” head coach Mike Tomlin said, “but we’re also capable of losing to anyone'”. “It’s a painful lesson we learned today”. “And we let them have life by the mistakes we made”, Foster said.
The Ravens won just two of their next six games and finished the 1997 season 6-9-1, while the Steelers went on to the AFC title game and narrowly missed getting to Super Bowl XXXII.
“It is frustrating because we know the caliber of team we are”, linebacker Lawrence Timmons said, via the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
The Ravens may have been confident, but they got far more than they ever could have expected from QB Ryan Mallett whom they claimed and signed on December 15. He added that Sunday’s tilt with the Browns is about “getting the stench off us…” The Browns last win came against San Francisco 49ers in Week 14 as quarterback Johnny Manziel completed 21 of 31 passes in that game for 270 yards with 1 touchdown and 1 interception. Though the march did not produce points, Baltimore kept the ball away from the Steelers for almost seven minutes and pinned Pittsburgh on its own 9.
Buck Allen’s 3-yard touchdown run gave the Ravens a 20-10 lead with 10:35 to play. But Baltimore’s Courtney Upshaw was lined up offside on the play, negating the TD, and Williams scored his second touchdown with 6:33 left.
The Ravens eventually stopped Pittsburgh and held on for the victory. On fourth-and-15 at the Pittsburgh 37-yard line, a pass from Roethlisberger to Markus Wheaton fell incomplete after the two-minute warning.
And when the Steelers did get them backed up a couple of times, Tomlin noted that they allowed them out of those situations, including giving up a long pass down the sideline on second-and-23, one of the few deep passes Mallett attempted.
“It’s Pittsburgh”, cornerback Jimmy Smith said.
Falcons 20, Panthers 13 – After Julio Jones’s 70-yard touchdown reception in the third quarter gave host Atlanta the lead, Carolina came up empty in two possessions in the final three minutes and suffered its first loss of the season. Several times, Baltimore would appear to back itself up with a penalty only to wriggle loose by turning a second-and-long into third-and-short and ultimately a first down.
Like most players in Ravens history, Webb and Wright are not from Baltimore and didn’t live through the torturous sports run the Steel City inflicted on Charm City. The Texans (8-7) will clinch Monday if Cincinnati wins in Denver. Sunday, they scored 17 with Roethlisberger, who had his worst game of the season.
Webb has been with the Ravens since 2009 and went through the playoff loss before the recent run of regular-season success began. On the drive, the strong-armed quarterback was 5-for-7 for 47 yards, including a 3-for-3 effort on third down. The Ravens are 5-10 but with the NFL’s 14th-ranked offence and 17th-ranked defence, it might not take many key off-season acquisitions to become contenders again. His backup Terrance West also ran hard and had 42 yards on 13 carries. The Ravens’ rushing attack, meanwhile, picked up 121 yards and a touchdown.

The Dolphins (5-10) had first and goal at the 5 with 40 seconds left, but after three consecutive incompletions, rookie center Jamil Douglas snapped the ball prematurely, and Ryan Tannehill was sacked by three Colts.
