The charges stem from their role in Tuesday’s protest against Dakota Access Pipeline in Morton County.

Green Party Presidential nominee Jill Stein will go to North Dakota to face misdemeanor charges. Stein proceeded to spray the phrase “I approve this message” in red paint on the blade of a bulldozer, the AP noted. Her running mate, Ajamu Baraka, was also charged for painting the word “decolonization” on another piece of nearby equipment.

“We’ve got to turn this around and stop the continuing desecration of our climate, the desecration of indigenous sacred lands and their gravesites, to protect their indigenous sovereignty and to protect human rights”, Stein said in a Twitter video.

Stein has released a statement in response, saying, “I hope they take action against the Dakota Access Pipeline Company that is endangering drinking water.for millions of people who depend on the Missouri River”. The $3.8 billion pipeline will run from North Dakota to IL, and part of its path will cross the Missouri River.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein says she’s working with North Dakota authorities to arrange a court date on charges related to her participation in a protest against the Dakota Access pipeline.

A weekend confrontation between protesters and private security guards left some guards injured and some protesters with dog bites.
