Step forward Tim Kaine, the man next to Hillary Clinton

Solomon suggested actions such as staying seated or turning backs when Kaine takes the stage, but said his team was looking into procedural options to protest the Virginia senator in a more formal way as well. Kaine backed President Obama instead of Clinton in the 2008 election.

Clinton stated that Kaine has vowed to fight for better gun control laws in America -She noted that “The National Rifle Association was headquartered in his state and that H Kaine wouldn’t hesitate to push for gun control”. “He leaves a trail of broken promises and wrecked lives wherever he goes”, Kaine said.

But Kaine’s other assets apparently assuaged that trepidation, and he gave a triumphant, bilingual speech during his first public appearance with Clinton as her chosen No. 2 in Miami Saturday.

Sen. Bernie Sanders said Sunday morning that he’d have preferred Hillary Clinton to pick Massachusetts Sen.

A sendoff rally will be held Friday on Independence Mall in Philadelphia, the Clinton campaign said Sunday.

Appearing with Clinton two days before the launch of the Democratic convention in Philadelphia, Kaine focused much of his speech on distinguishing Clinton, who was present and appeared more at ease than she has during much of her campaign to become the Democratic nominee, and her Republican counterpart, Donald Trump.

“The mood of the country is a populist one”, said Stephanie Taylor, of the Progressive Change Campaign Committee, as she warned that Mr Kaine’s support of free-trade policies was out of step with the times.

“Tim Kaine is, and always has been, owned by the banks. And he is a progressive who likes to get things done”, Clinton declared at Florida International University. “So we know that there are Republicans who share our concerns and want to be part of the solution, not just peddling fear and bigotry”, Clinton said.

“She’s clearly damaged party unity” with the Kaine choice, added Norman Solomon, coordinator of the national Bernie Delegates Network.

Kaine is likely to be a valuable asset for the Democratic ticket in appealing to Hispanic Americans turned off by Trump’s harsh rhetoric about immigrants.

The CNN cable news outlet shows Clinton with a 236-191 lead in electoral votes with 111 up for grabs in too-close-to call battleground states, while the Real Clear Politics website has her ahead 209-164 with 165 undecided. Kaine asked the raucous crowd of more than 5,000.
