Stephen Colbert Announces Jeb Bush as Guest on First ‘Late Show’

“This is the longest I’ve gone since I was 24 not performing in front of a live audience”, he said. One big wish is that Donald Trump will stay in presidential race until that time.

“I want to do jokes on Donald Trump so badly”, Colbert said. “In any case, I likewise trust that no one gets that light excessively near his hair”.

Television host and comedian Stephen Colbert said he’s practically itching to get back on stage, Variety reported. Colbert, befitting the late-night veteran he is, had no such problems Monday. But he feels that it was time to put his “Colbert Report” persona to bed.

“Whenever I did interviews there”, he said, “I always had to filter my responses through the maze in my head of how my character would react”.

“I wore that character slightly as a cap”, Colbert continued. But despite conceding that viral content is part of the job for a modern late-night host, he insisted he wouldn’t be driven by any need to do so. Lamar was one of the final guests and the very last musician to appear on The Colbert Report last year, when he debuted a new single ahead of the release of his critically-acclaimed album To Pimp a Butterfly. Advancements in sound and lighting technology, he said, require less equipment on and around the stage. And while Letterman didn’t leave behind any sort of memento for Colbert – or, if he did, Colbert wasn’t talking- “Dave did something better than that”, Colbert revealed. “I’m gonna ask him if I can have the keys”. He added that he will not disclose any other names now.

“My first GOP candidate!” his Twitter post said, then poked fun at the size of the GOP field. He said ‘there it is.

Daily Show” producers asked Colbert to deliver an on-air thank you to Stewart – something he knew would make Stewart squirm. When I told them fans had been concerned that CBS had lost faith in the show, they said that wasn’t their impression at all. “We have been all chanting ‘we made him cry! Luckily I do 200 shows a year, so I think I can fit them all”.

John Batiste was selected as his musical director because of his deep roots in New Orleans jazz and his charisma. “I can’t wait to play off his energy on stage”. (New Orleans jazz musician Jon Batiste will be his bandleader). “I’m not exhausted at the end”.

– What “late-night wars?” “I dare you to come on the show”. “That’s really heartening. Now I can just talk”.

Colbert also told reporters that 10 days before his predecessor, David Letterman, signed off, he asked to meet with him. A few of Letterman’s staffers are staying on, including music booker Sheryl Zilikson.

Stephen Colbert says he wants Donald Trump to stay in the U.S. presidential race at least as long as Colbert's late night talk show host debut Sept. 8
