Stephen Colbert took a moment during The Late Show to tell a story about how Frey and The Eagles shaped an important moment in his life. Colbert didn’t dance with anyone all night until the DJ announced that “Desperado” was the last song that would be played that evening.

Detroit-born Frey and Henley co-founded the Eagles in 1971 in Los Angeles after playing backup for rock singer Linda Ronstadt.

Frey died a little more than a week after another rock great, David Bowie, died at age 69 in NY, apparently of liver cancer. Azoff did not specify what medication Frey had been taking.

Frey’s final decline began roughly a month after his last performance with the Eagles in Bossier City, La., on July 29, said his brother, Alan Frey, to The Post.

Although the Eagles’ most iconic song “Hotel California” was inspired by the Golden State, the chart-topping song was actually recorded right here in South Florida in the 1970s.

Nashville country musicians also mourned Frey’s death and remembered the band leader’s abiding influence with the band’s smooth harmonies and unforgettable lyrics said to embody the unflappable California country rock music.
