Stephen Colbert revisits ‘Hunger Games’ spoof at DNC

Other than the appearance on the show during the Republican National Convention last week, viewers hadn’t seen the character since The Colbert Report ended. At this point in the show, Colbert introduced the character Stephen Colbert’s identical cousin, “Stephen Colbert”, via satellite from the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia. Viacom’s lawyers got in touch with CBS’s lawyers to express their disapproval, so on Wednesday night, Stephen finally retired “Stephen Colbert”.

Well, kinda. Immediately after sharing the heartbreaking news, Colbert cut to an unlikely correspondent for commentary: conservative pundit Stephen Colbert’s identical twin cousin, “Stephen Colbert”.

At the time, NBC’s president said Letterman could not take popular features like the Top 10 list and Stupid Pet Tricks with him because they were the “intellectual property” of NBC.

And as if that wasn’t daring enough, Colbert introduced a new segment, “The Werd”, a play off his “Colbert Report” bit “The Word”.

Watch all of the Stephen Colberts in action and get the lowdown on “The Lesser of Two Evils” in the full segment from July 27. But he wasn’t allowed to do that, according to Viacom corporate lawyers. They’re doing that well enough on their own, I guess. “Instead of focusing on my emails, let’s focus on what Donald Trump will do to females”, Cartoon Hillary said stiltedly. It’s shocking since, as the Colbert sidebar informs us, his supporters say pretty much the same thing. There’s so much negativity, Colbert even proposed writing in “Michelle” as another option.
