Stephen Colbert, Showtime in talks for live election special
Showtime executives still don’t know how many episodes to expect. “I just think it’ll be really fun”. “He’s not on CBS that night anyway, so …” Nevins announced two new premiere dates: Homeland, which was renewed by Showtime in June through Season 8, will return for its sixth season on January 15, while Billions’ second season premieres February 19. The bosses also said that if Colbert were to head over to Showtime, they would hope that it would play to their premium status – in other words, that it would be uncensored (and that it would be him – not a Colbert character, which would be amazing).

What’s more, fans of Comedy Central’s Colbert Report will be pleased to hear the election special may resemble the Colbert they fell in love with more than anything they’ve seen him do thus far since joining CBS.
The other shoe dropped Thursday on a couple of high-profile departures from NBC’s Saturday Night Live and the late-night show’s loss turns out to be Showtime’s gain. “He can take what he’s doing on the CBS show and bring it here, but do it a little bit unfettered”.
“It’ll be interesting to see what Colbert does with no commercial breaks, no language restrictions”. “He’s never done that before so that’ll be a new thing”. There will be one on September 26 after the first Presidential debate, and then on October 4 following the Vice-Presidential debate. Nevins anticipates a one-hour special on November 8, but should live results and breaking news warrant more coverage, it could go late. I want to do it.
Nevins added that the special will likely air between 10 p.m. and 11 p.m., but they might add contingencies to overrun later into the night “if stuff is really happening”.

Showtime will present the documentary Weiner, about the two-stage political downfall of former New York Congressman Anthony Weiner, on October 22. “The Circus had way more impact than I expected, and … in political circles, is an important part of the conversation”, he said.
