Stephen Silas: Golden State in on Stephen Silas chase

Houston Chronicle’s Jonathan Feigen is reporting that the Rockets are down to D’Antoni and Charlotte Hornets assistant coach Stephen Silas.

They will be the 11th and 12th coaches the team will have spoken with regarding its vacant head coaching position.

Silas has become a hot commodity over the past couple of days, as the Houston Rockets are said to be favoring him as the lead candidate to fulfill their open coaching slot, and the Golden State Warriors have entered the race for his services as well.

The Rockets are seriously considering a coaching partnership that includes Silas and Lionel Hollins as associate head coach, league sources said. The Rockets’ decision to hire a defensive-minded assistant like Silas will be a huge factor in team’s rebuilding process, especially with their main man James Harden.

The Rockets lost to the Golden State Warriors in five games in the first round of the playoffs. He was an assistant with the Warriors from 2006-10 and enjoyed a good working relationship with Stephen Curry.

The Warriors are apparently interested in bringing back former assistant coach Stephen Silas to replace the departing Luke Walton. Silas met with Houston general manager Daryl Morey a second time on Thursday, a meeting that included his initial audience with owner Leslie Alexander.

Alexander has taken a significant role in the coaching search and has long admired D’Antoni.
