“Jammu and Kashmir is a different state, there are different challenges”.
There seems to be no progress on the Jammu and Kashmir government formation.
“We shall be discussing party affairs, strengthening the party at the grassroots level and other related issues without taking up the issue of staking claim to power”, said a party source. However, Akhtar did not spell out whether Mehbooba was elected as the leader of the PDP Legislature Party. Hailing her late father for his guts, she said she does not have such “experience”.
“Mehbooba Mufti ji needs to show us her cards first, and then only can we talk about taking the next step”. Asked how long the government formation process could take, he said “nothing can be said in this regard”.
This meeting, convened almost a month after the death of her father Mufti Mohammed Sayeed on January 7, makes it amply clear that the coalition is on the rocks. This was just a courtesy call.
The PDP’s legislature party determined that Ms. Mufti may fly on Tuesday to meet up the Governor within the morning to describe her party’s viewpoint before him and achieved below to go over the problem. “I don’t have that vision which Mufti saheb had, [and] neither do I have the experience”.
State BJP President Sat Sharma said if any issue is raised by PDP, it can be resolved. “We can’t tell you anything as of now but we believe that a democratic set up would soon prevail in the state”, he added.
A report from new Delhi said the BJP delegation – Mr Sharma, former deputy CM Nirmal Singh, MP Jugal Kishore and Shamsheer Singh Manhas – are likely to meet BJP president Amit Shah and general secretary Ram Madhav, who played a key role in forging the alliance with the PDP.
Repeatedly asked about what she wants from the Centre, Mehbooba said there was a need for confidence building measures (CBMs).
He said, “it is not about courtesies or personal conduct but about the issues that we feel are necessary to be addressed for the betterment of the people of the state and the primary need of reposing trust in the people of the state. All we want is: honest and faithful implementation of the “Agenda of the Alliance”.
