Sterling recovery at Man City draws praise from Guardiola

Pep Guardiola’s success at Manchester City will be judged by him winning City’s only remaining title- the UEFA Champions League and anything less will be deemed a failure.

Pep Guardiola is impressed with what he has seen from Yaya Toure and Joe Hart in training ahead of Manchester City’s Champions League playoff against Steaua Bucharest, even though the pair face uncertain futures at the Etihad Stadium.

When David Moyes went to Manchester United I always felt he needed to do the same to make the players sit up but he seemed to shy away from making that big call.

Steaua Bucharest defeated Sparta Praha 3-1 on aggregate in the third qualifying round.

“Manchester City reaching the semi-finals for the first time in history was a huge achievement”.

Guardiola is known to prefer playing with a goalkeeper comfortable in possession and Bravo’s pass completion rate of 84 per cent was the highest of any stopper in Europe’s top five leagues last season.

“It was just the first time [reaching the semi-finals]”.

Rangers midfielder Barton, the City academy graduate who spent five seasons in the first team before departing in 2007, told talkSPORT on Wednesday: “It is not the club I left”. I don’t know what the truth is. But the 33-year-old’s fitness is evidently not yet at a level acceptable to the manager -after his second squad omission in as many days.

“I need to feel this pressure, the people demanding that you have to win”.

He said: “We know nothing is easy when a new manager comes in and we have to adapt to a new style”. In the beginning it will be tough.

You need to get that balance right but I’m sure that message will get across during the course of the season.

Like Lallana, Henderson, Clyne, and Milner, Hart is also part of a national team with a long history of abject failure, and his mistakes played a major role in England’s predictable collapse at Euro 2016.
