Steve Kerr to return to Golden State Warriors’ bench Friday

Steve Kerr returned to the Golden State Warriors on Friday and plans to be on the bench in his role as head coach when the team hosts the Indiana Pacers. He was on the Warriors’ most recent trip to Detroit, Cleveland and Chicago.

Kerr missed the team’s first 43 games after undergoing a pair of back surgeries during the offseason.

Kerr announced an indefinite leave of absence due to a slow recovery from back surgery and handed the team over to assistant coach Luke Walton for the first 43 games of the regular season. Walton won NBA Coach of the Month honors for November after the Warriors completed the season’s first month with a 19-0 record en route to a 24-0 run, which eclipsed the previous NBA record for the best start to a season (15-0). Doors open at #Warriors facility and Steve Kerr is on the court as “Welcome Back” song plays in background.

Kerr led Golden State to a league-best 67-15 regular-season record last year as a rookie head coach before going on to win the Warriors’ first National Basketball Association title in 40 years.

The Golden State Warriors have been phenomenal with Luke Walton stepping in as the head coach. It’s been such hard sledding for them this season at 39-4.
