Steve Rannazzisi confesses to lying about 9/11.

In both a 2009 and 2011 interview, Rannazzisi said he was working on for Merrill Lynch on the 54th floor of the south tower when the opposite building was hit.

Comedian Steve Rannazzisi got himself into a whole lot of trouble earlier this week when it was revealed he lied about escaping from the World Trade Center during the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

The truth came out after the New York Times provided proof to Rannazzisi that he was not in the World Trade Center at the time, nor did he work for Merrill Lynch as he claimed.

“I don’t know why I said this”, he wrote. “This was inexcusable. I am truly, truly sorry”, the comedian said in a statement.

The Buffalo Wild Wings spots have become some of the most memorable ads the company has produced. Buffalo Wild Wings announced on Thursday that it would discontinue its relationship with the comedian, pulling the ad campaign.

Comedy Central was supposed to air Mr. Liar’s comedy special this weekend, but hasn’t decided whether to do so in light of the sudden bad publicity. It appears the network will go forward with airing the show, though the negative publicity could certainly affect rating for the program. The sitcom is already in the midst of its seventh and final season, which premiered September 9.
