Steve Smith has microfractures in back, out for Week 5

Baltimore’s 23-20 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday took a heavy toll on the Ravens Saturday with Michael Campanaro being placed on injured reserve and fellow wide receiver Steve Smith listed as “week-to-week”. There is hope that Smith will play after the Browns game, Harbaugh said.

“I think he’s going to be OK in the long run”, Harbaugh said during a sideline interview at the Michigan-Maryland game.

Pain will be a factor in determining how soon Smith will return.

Losing Smith for any period of time would be a considerable blow to the offense. Smith went for more than 1,000 yards past year and played well in the playoffs, scoring two touchdowns against Darrelle Revis and the New England Patriots in the AFC Divisonal game.

Not only is he third in the league thus far in receiving yards with 374, but he also can not stop getting into trash-talking wars with his opponents.

The Ravens’ only healthy receivers are Kamar Aiken, Marlon Brown, Darren Waller and Chris Givens, who was acquired in a trade with the St. Louis Rams earlier Saturday.

Smith appeared to be hurt on a hit by the Steelers’ Lawrence Timmons after a catch. He didn’t play in the fourth quarter or overtime.

The Ravens released a statement on Smith’s injury Saturday. “His status is now week-to-week”.
