Steven Avery of ‘Making a Murderer’ files an appeal

It chronicles the case of Steven Avery, a Manitowoc County, Wisconsin man who was convicted of the 2007 murder of Teresa Halbach, to which the series has since raised questions on the validity of the charge.

Stachowski, who defended Avery in the widely popular docuseries, said during the interview that he forced her to lie to Netflix producers or else she would “pay for it”. Avery asserts that the scope of the search exceeded the limits set by the search warrant. Although the Netflix docu-series and one juror in Avery’s trial seem to think he’s innocent Avery’s ex-fiancée thinks otherwise despite previously defending him. He said in his papers that his lawyer incompetently represented him.

In a Facebook post addressing calls to pardon Avery, Walker sidesteps the issue to ask those concerned to read the state appellate court’s decision.

According to Avery’s former fiancee, the convicted murderer also threatened to take her life once.

Over 400,000 people have signed a petition calling for the release of Avery and Dassey since the show’s broadcast.

Steven Avery filed several motions Monday before the Wisconsin Court of Appeals seeking to be released on bond and making a variety of due process allegations.

Kathleen Zellner has recently been instated as Avery’s new attorney but her name did not appear on the conviction appeal.

What’s even more surprising than a rap song about a Netflix documentary telling the story of a murder case is that it isn’t even the first track to be inspired by the series. Avery was released on the earlier charge after being exonerated by DNA evidence. “We are confident Mr. Avery’s conviction will be vacated when we present the new evidence and results of our work to the appropriate court”. Avery’s nephew, Brendan Dassey, was also convicted for the same murder.

Manitowoc County authorities have strongly denied claims that they tampered with or planted evidence and have insisted that justice was served.

Avery has been maintaining his innocence once again and his supporters have fervently been spreading that message online through social media and petitions.
