Steven Gerrard’s ‘good fit’ with Rangers will worry Celtic, says Jurgen Klopp
Gerrard was an inspirational captain and Champions League victor in a 17-year career at Anfield but now faces a different challenge against Celtic, who sealed the Scottish title on Sunday with a 5-0 thumping of Rangers.

Rangers have appointed Steven Gerrard on a four-year deal.
Though Celtic continue to benefit from regularly qualifying for the Champions League, Gerrard could have a distinct advantage in being able to bring Liverpool’s most talented youngsters on loan.
I am hearing great things about his work with the Under 18s, who he took to the quarter-finals of the Youth Champions League.
King added: “But having said that – and I mean no disrespect – if I looked at all of the other names that were being put forward over the last couple of months, they had experience, but a lot of that experience wasn’t necessarily good”. There were different opportunities which presented themselves since I came home from Los Angeles.
“He would be going into a club that is on the back foot, that has been in turmoil for nearly a decade now”, Souness wrote in the Sunday Times. Since I stopped playing football, I have missed that pressure of fighting for three points at the weekend. That’s why I love being involved in football.
“I’m here for a reason: to front the challenge and take the club forward”. I want to win football matches from the off. The supporters are a big reason I wanted to come here and be a leader. If I didn’t have that, I wouldn’t be sitting here.
“If we can identify players who fancy that, we’ll get them in”.
“It’s not easy for Rangers to compete against Celtic, but still I think he will be a manager with fresh ideas and his commitment will be there with his passion”. Equally, he is unfazed by it.
“It doesn’t matter if you’ve played the game to his level, or haven’t played the game, there is always huge differences”. “I have been in the position where I have had an opinion myself”. “I respect people’s opinions but I can’t control that”. The key here is stability but I need to get my teeth into the job before I can weigh up exactly where we need to strengthen. I’m my own man. I got a feeling in my stomach. I know I’ll get the support from the supporters. “If he thinks he’s ready, then he’s ready”, Klopp said.
“But it doesn’t make me focus any more or any less”.
“I’m happy that he enters into my world of coaching and managing”. The staff, everyone, needs to believe in you.
“I’m not flawless but I will put people around me to support me, to complement where I need a bit of help and guidance”.
Gerrard confirmed that Gary McAllister would join as his assistant.
The 37-year-old arrived in Glasgow on Friday afternoon to sign the contract, replacing Graeme Murty who was an interim manager after the sacking of Pedro Caixinha.
Gerrard said at his Ibrox press conference: ‘I’m very aware of Rangers, the size of the club, I’ve watched them from afar and been lucky enough to watch some of the Old Firm games. “We are already close”. “As you know we have been very thoughtful and careful while looking for a manager”. Gary ticks that box. All the rest is to learn; I’m sure he learned a lot in the a year ago. “I can’t wait to be out there leading this team”.

Gerrard has a very big job on his hands. So I certainly don’t see it as a punt.
