Steven Gerrard scores as LA Galaxy go top in MLS

The Galaxy extended their lead two minutes later when Dos Santos split two defenders dumping off a handsome pass to Keane in the center of the box who lifted his shot past FC Dallas goalkeeper Jesse Gonzalez and into the far right side of the net.

The Los Angeles Galaxy won a pivotal match up against FC Dallas Sunday.

“I told you so”, – Rafa Benitez, 2015. It’s all a bunch of crap. “Our team is going to score goals”.

“While the Galaxy regained the lead in the Supporters” Shield, just six points separate the top 10 teams in the race with three full weeks to play in the regular season. The Whitecaps, Red Bulls and FC Dallas all have games in hand on the defending MLS Cup champions, but that’s another target for Arena’s scorn. “That pushes up to 50 points and we’re the only team with 50 points which is nice to see”. “We got 50 in the bank; somebody else has to get that”.

Later, FC Dallas’ Atiba Harris made things interesting with his goal in the 86th minute, making the score 3-2. The former England captain and Liverpool star is playing a defensive role in the Galaxy’s midfield.

“I didn’t have a problem with my confidence”, Gerrard insisted.

“There’s been nothing wrong with us”, said Arena, whose team hadn’t scored an MLS goal since August 23.

“I said last week, we’re at the business end of the season”, Gerrard added.

FC Dallas had most of the game much of the rest of the half, with Castillo’s agile runs through small crevices causing plenty of havoc. “You have to win the games in hand”.

The San Jose Earthquakes defeated Real Salt Lake 1-0, but Matias Perez Garcia marred his match-winning goal in the 87th minute by taking off his shirt in celebration, which earned the midfielder a second yellow card and an expulsion. The Irish captain and his Mexican teammate then celebrated by doing the nae nae. Victor Ullou sent a long valley deep into the Galaxy zone and Michael Barrios beat Robbie Rogers to the ball, heading in a lob shot that landed over the outstretched arm of a misplaced Donovan Ricketts for the goal.

Keane hit the crossbar twice in the second half, but Gerrard cleaned up a corner kick in the box.
