Steven Gerrard Scores On His Major League Soccer Debut

Bursting with confidence, the Galaxy kept up the pressure and drew another penalty kick when San Jose goalkeeper David Bingham bobbled a Gerrard blast outside the area, and Robbie Keane buried again to complete his hat-trick.

The Galaxy outshot the Earthquakes 13-6 (8-3 on target shots) and have now scored 19 goals in their last four homes games, all wins.

Steven Gerrard scores on his competitive debut for Los Angeles Galaxy as the MLS champions fight back to beat San Jose Earthquakes.

With the Galaxy already 2-0 down, Gerrard jumped for a loose ball in the box and was struck in the head by the left forearm of San Jose midfielder Tommy Thompson. I thought our guys responded really well.

The Gerrard show continued in the second half when he drilled a low free-kick across the box that Keane flicked home for the go-ahead goal in the 64th minute.

“Whereas I know coming here on a Monday, come Friday or Saturday I’m going to be a big part of it and start. When we add [Giovani] Dos Santos into the mix as well, we could have a formidable front line moving forward”. He reiterated “I didn’t want to come off” the pitch and wanted to “play as much football” as he possibly could.

Key Player: Steven Gerrard – Impossible to overlook the midfield enforcer as he will be desperate to start his MLS career with a victory against the Galaxy’s fierce rivals. I was very pleased to get off the mark and even more pleased for Robbie to get another hat-trick.

“I’m starting to feel a little bit sharper, I’m very close to full fitness”.

On Friday night I experienced my first Major League Soccer match at LA Galaxy’s StubHub Center stadium.

Steven Gerrard admits he wasn’t interested in being a “squad player at Liverpool”.

“I didn’t think was going to play”, he said. “As the game went on, we were getting better and better”. I fell like I’ve still got energy.

“I was quite disappointed in the previous two games not to get goals, I had two good chances”, Gerrard said. Gerrard got an assist as well and LA won 5-2, after hitting the crossbar for good measure.

“There’s no question”, Keane said.
