Steven Gerrard to train with Liverpool in break from Major League Soccer

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that club legend Steven Gerrard will not be making a comeback to Anfield.

The midfielder, now in the Major League Soccer off-season after his summer move to the Los Angeles Galaxy, had initially been offered the opportunity to train at the club’s Melwood base by former boss Brendan Rodgers when the 35-year-old left in May and Klopp is happy to honour that.

Tonight’s sees Liverpool in Europa League action against Rubin Kazan in Russian Federation, and Klopp has taken a strong squad to Russian Federation in order to try and make it to the knock-out stages of the competition.

He said this week that next year could be his last as a player. “If he wants to train ahead of next season with LA Galaxy, then absolutely no problem – but nothing else”, he said bluntly.

“He didn’t ask and I don’t have to think about this”.

Gerrard is reported to have discussed his future with the LA Galaxy manager Bruce Arena, but Independent reports that Galaxy are now not willing to sanction a loan deal similar to the one afforded to David Beckham, who went to AC Milan twice on loan during his five-year stint with the MLS club. Of course our doors are always open for him, that is clear.

The prospect of Liverpool buying back their former talisman, who has one year remaining on his Galaxy contract, seems equally remote.

“I can say I have had contact with Stevie”.

Now following the appointment of Jurgen Klopp as manager, it was feared that even the German’s hands would be tied regarding player signings due to the transfer committee.

Hamann, who played alongside Gerrard in the 2005 Champions League triumph, told talkSPORT: “Klopp has had a decent start and what he needs now is peace and quiet”. We had good players at Dortmund also, but I am not judging if they are good enough or not good enough now. They are all nice guys with big skills with big passion that we need and now we can work together and not think of anything different.

“I don’t believe it is at all accurate”, he told reporters in California.
