Steven Soderbergh to produce Panama Papers movie
Steven Soderbergh is making a movie about the infamous Panama Papers, TheWrap has confirmed. On scripting duties is Scott Z. Burns, a frequent collaborator of the director who has worked with him on films like Contagion and Side Effects, among others. It’s based on the forthcoming book called “Secrecy World”, being written by Pulitzer Prize winning journalist Jake Bernstein and published by Henry Holt and Company.

The organisation helped to crack the story after a whistle blower – whose identity has never been revealed – passed the documents to Süddeutsche Zeitung newspaper.
A couple of months ago, the The International Consortium of Investigative Journalists broke a major financial story: the leaking of 11.5 million documents detailing the internal workings of Mossack Fonseca, a Panamanian law firm responsible for helping the rich of the world legally hide more than $2 trillion from tax-seeking governments.
Steven Soderbergh is one of those directors that for every one “bleh” film he does (OCEAN’S TWELVE, THE GOOD GERMAN) there’s about 15 more that are “hmmm, quite fascinating indeed” (please don’t make me list all of them). He has since stepped away from that project too.

Meanwhile, Soderbergh – who is married to writer Jules Asner – is directing Daniel Craig in “Logan Lucky” in his first movie outside of the James Bond franchise, and which stars Channing Tatum to Hilary Swank and Katherine Heigl. Now, he is going to be expanding his reach even further as he eyes up the opportunity to mastermind a movie all about the Panama Papers data scandal which occurred earlier this year. Majority came forward to deny any wrongdoing.
