San Diego Chargers wide receiver Stevie Johnson sustained a torn meniscus during practice on Sunday and will have surgery, reports Michael Silver of NFL Media. But I can’t give you any dates.

Johnson immediately went down in pain, and had to be helped off of the field to the training room. The veteran caught 45 passes for almost 500 yards and scored three touchdowns in 10 games during his first year in San Diego, but will now be sidelined for an undetermined, but possibly lengthy, time period due to his knee injury.

Johnson caught the football during a pass play, fell to the ground without being contacted, but when he got back up and started to run – it was obvious something was wrong with his knee.

Johnson missed six games because of hamstring and groin injuries in 2015. Johnson was primed to be a big target for Philip Rivers this season, however, his injury will give more attention to Chargers No. 1 wideout Keenan Allen and newly signed Travis Benjamin.

Last year, Johnson was the Chargers’ fourth best receiver, totaling 45 catches for 497 yards and three touchdowns.
