Stipe Miocic responds to Jon Jones’ interest in possible fight

The saga of Jon Jones remains ongoing, but if the former UFC light heavyweight champion is cleared to return to active competition without major penalty, fellow 205-pound contender Alexander Gustafsson believes it would be unfair to throw Jones back into the UFC title mix without forcing the embattled American to work his way back up the divisional ladder. Jones failed a pre-fight drug test earlier this year and was removed from a planned championship match with Daniel Cormier.

I’m starting to realize the hype is real with that guy.

Miocic was able to successfully defend his belt against Alistair Overeem at UFC 203 on Saturday night, winning via first round knockout.

Any possible fight between the two would have to take place next year at the earliest, after Jones’ suspension is handed down. “Just going to chill, hang out with the wife, we’re moving into a new house in a couple of weeks”. Do you think Jones would do well against Miocic or wouldn’t end badly for the former champion?

Add Jones into the mix and Miocic has a growing list of possible contenders but he’s not anxious about who the UFC will ultimately pick. Jones had apparently seen Miocic fight his teammate, and was impressed by what he saw, that he once again entertained the possibility of a fight, down the line.

“Like I said, I’ll fight whoever they want me to fight”, Miocic said. I’m up for suggestions, so whatever they give me, I’m down with. It was a sentiment begrudgingly shared by UFC boss Dana White, who told reporters shortly thereafter that, “The guy eventually is going to naturally have to go to heavyweight because he’s so big … as he gets older, it’s going to be harder to cut that weight. I’m a little exhausted”.
